February 2008: The school year officially kicked off in the last week of January. Some of our CISO staff took leave from work to assist their young children with settling into pre school at Avarua School. It was a big step for the little ones; getting used to the classroom environment, hanging out with new kids, learning, eating & playing together as a group. The kids are so eager to go to school with one of the mothers at CISO saying, "…. my daughter woke up early on the Saturday morning (after the first week of school) and wanted me to hurry up because she had to go to school". Another CISO mother said, "They probably had writing lessons on the first day, my four year old daughter came home after the first day and ended up writing on parts of the walls to our house". For one other CISO staff member it was a case of, "…I went to pick up my grandson from pre school, he saw me then ran and hid from me under a table because he just wasn't ready to go home". CISO staff in this situation anticipated a whole week off to assist with the orientation of their children at pre school but only ended up taking leave from work for two half days at most.
