The aim of this profile is to provide an overview of some of the demographic features of the population of the Cook Islands. The emphasis is on identifying the key implications for planners and policy-makers of observed demographic levels and trends.

This profile is mainly based on the results of the 1996 Cook Islands Census and data provided by the Cook Islands Statistics Office. It was prepared by Mr Andreas Demmke and would have not been possible without the dedication and hard work of the Cook Islands Statistics Office staff.
