DECEMBER QUARTER 2011
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for December quarter 2011 was 120.9, recording a slight decrease of 0.2% over September quarter 2011 and an increase by 3.3% over December quarter 2010. Over the same period, the “underlying CPI” recorded a positive movement of 5.7% over December quarter 2011 and it continued to increase at a slower rate of 2.1% over September quarter 2011.
The most significant contributions to the movement in the CPI are highlighted as follows:
Food group prices registered an increase
of 0.7 per cent. Fruits & Vegetables Subgroup
rose by 2.1 per cent, contributed mainly by the
high prices in potatoes and onions. Farm
products contributed 1.5 per cent increase
Transport group fell by 2.7 per cent
which was mainly affected by the decrease in
prices of international airfares in the Overseas
Travel Subgroup down by 11.7 per cent.
